Stop and Shop and Giant Foods
Stop & Shop and Giant were opening a new shared services DC facility in Freetown, MA. The facility is highly automated with AS/RS crane equipment. They needed to stretch the facility to service more stores than originally expected. To-date they have saved more that $7 Million in inventory and labor, and increased their service level by 2-3%. They started by tracking their top 20 metrics.

Whole Foods has a largely disparate fulfillment supply chain with 10 separate DC’s, including several freight forwarders. They are moving towards centralizing their purchasing operations and needed enterprise-wide inventory visibility to accomplish their goals. In their estimation, this project will save them $8-10 million per year.
Staples
Staples sought to improve DC service level from 92% to 96%. This will drive roughly $554 million in additional product to the store shelves.
